Prayer, Why it is So Extremely Important

The Practice of Prayer
by
Moonjang Lee

It is commonsense to say that prayer is crucial in the Christian life. Prayer is a must for anyone in ministry. Ministry without a consistent and deep prayer life will be misery. Strangely, however, it is not easy to meet with men and women of prayer in most Christian circles today. The rhetoric on prayer or prayer life abounds, but the culture of prayer seems to be deteriorating. How can we restore the habit of prayer in Christian life and in ministry? I personally think that widespread spiritual ignorance is the main culprit for our laxity in prayer life. The way we Christians perceive the world has become blurred, and we do not seem to realize what is going on in the spiritual domain. So we have to be awakened to the satanic reality which has deeply permeated the fabric of our earthly lives. If we look closely into our inner life, we will be surprised to find that we carry so many ungodly things in our heart and mind which affect negatively the way we think, speak and behave. Many of our families are dysfunctional. We hear stories of violence and conflict in the regional and global context every day. In essence, we live in a dysfunctional world, i.e., a fallen world. People are victimized by all kinds of satanic attacks on every front. Our lives could hardly be characterized by glory, holiness, power and freedom in Christ; rather, we are subjected to all forms of satanic bondage and oppression: hatred, depression, misunderstanding, sensuality, pride, fear, worry, diseases, divorce, conflicts, wars and many others. We are reminded every day that we exist not in the heavenly reality, but in the satanic reality.
Our life on earth is to be characterized as a good fight against the presence of this reality. If we really perceive the satanic reality as the cause of all sorrows (individual, familial, societal and global) in this fallen world, we may have a divine anger towards the evil power operating in our midst. If we really see that our fight is “against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms,” we will be filled with a sense of God’s mission to “stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11). If we see clearly who our adversary is, then how can we not pray to the almighty God, our heavenly father?
We need to pray to fight against ourselves to purify our heart, and to rescue ourselves from the rules of the flesh. Our struggle is to grow spiritually to be like Jesus Christ. Our aim in life is to restore the image of Christ in us. With¬out prayer, this fight against our flesh cannot be won. We also need to pray to help others be freed from satanic bondage. To function spiritually, pastors should become prayer warriors, because the nature of their job is spiritual. Pastors should go into a deep prayer life if they really want to rescue people from the devil’s schemes in their everyday lives. Some pastors talk about prayer as the key to church revival. That is not wrong all together. However, pastors should not consider prayer merely as a tool for church growth or a successful, powerful ministry. Pastors should spend many hours a day in prayer in God’s presence because they become troubled in their soul to see the pain and to hear the inner cries of their church members. If pastors are not troubled in their soul, they are in real trouble!
Let me share a few practical tips to restore our habit of prayer. First, we need to cultivate the habit of converting all our thoughts (monologues) into a dialogue with God. We may have to stop thinking and start talking to/with God in all circumstances. If we admit that God is here with us and hears even our meditations, we cannot ignore Him in our thoughts. At first, we may feel that we are talking to God without getting any response from Him, but as we continue talking to/with God, a real dialogue can happen.
Second, we need to cultivate the habit of asking God whenever we are to make a choice–big or small. God is the best counselor and it would be most natural for us to ask the all-knowing God for everything in our daily walk. We have to practice what’s written in Proverbs 3:5-6a: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him.” If God is real in our lives, our dependence on God should also be real.
Third, we need to cultivate the habit of spending regular hour(s) every day for private prayer. We know that professional golfers practice at minimum two to three hours a day to remain competitive in their games. Unless we maintain a few hours in prayer daily, our ministry cannot be competi¬tive in the spiritual battleground.

Here again is one of the most interesting articles on prayer that I have ever read! Although it is geared to those in ministry, I decided to post it again for anyone struggling in their prayer life and is questioning the severe necessity of prayer. I think this article will do the trick to snapping you our of your stupor.

A Cancer in The Christian World

Because the carnal state of sinful man is always craving things of the flesh. The unregenerate nature of humans is never satisfied with things of the Spirit of God instead it seeks satisfaction with the physical world of materialism and human happiness. It isn't until people are made new in Christ Jesus, the crucifixion of self takes place and the mortification of sin begins, that the fulfillment of the "old man" ceases and the "new man" begins its life.

The Prosperity Gospel Spreading Like a Disease --- One way to build a ministry is by telling people what they want to hear: "You'll be rich and happy if you follow God". Why is this so?

Exposed: Talking about anything EXCEPT the Gospel

He doesn't BELIEVE IT!!! If you watch the clip he is accused of preaching about money or being a "prosperity preacher" or whatever -anyway the fact is: if he preached Christ and Him crucified he wouldn't be accused of anything of the sort. Jakes instead believes if you preach to people about their issues and give people therapeutic religious advise using biblical scripture references, or make movies, etc. that this will improve peoples outlook. However, therapy- even "church therapy", economic advise, or a motivational sermonette, can't regenerate the spiritually dead nature of humans. Take this little tidbit from Jesus Himself Mr. Jakes: "they must be Born Again".

Men Should First be Led to Christ Not to Economic Relief
Listen as T.D. Jakes blathers on about the economy, a movie he made, getting blessings, and how he is not a prosperity preacher, something about the president, the third world, etc, etc. He says nothing about the Gospel and its hope. The reason he doesn't say anything about the Gospel of Jesus Christ as being the true solution to sinful mankind- and instead rambles on about a booming economy is because...

Precious-A Movie Review: Why Only The Gospel of Jesus Christ Can Save Humans

his condition is: “dead in trespasses and sin”. The movie Precious by director Lee Daniel, gives a look into the heart of humans, which the prophet Jeremiah says, is “desperately wicked”. This movie shows what many refuse to believe which is: how vile, dark and diseased with iniquity the human mind is; and that only a divine renewal by the Holy Spirit can rescue a creature that is in fact not only in darkness but “darkness itself”(Ephesians 5:8). As you watch this movie you realize just how evil the unregenerate nature of man is. In this film you witness a mother severely abuse a child in a bone chilling fashion. The child is emotionally abused, sexually abused, and physically abused. Which leads to the question: how horrible can man be? God reveals the answer when He speaks to the condition of our species. In the book of Genesis, in the sixth chapter, after the fall and before the flood- it states: “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was evil continually and it repented the LORD that He had made man on the earth and it grieved him at his heart. The solution is something that is not natural but supernatural in fact it divine intervention. The Gospel then is the good news because it provides man with the only option of being a new creation rather than a rehabilitated and cleaned up sinner. The divine intervention through the death of Christ, provides the defeat of the captivity of sin that men and women are trapped under. His resurrection provides the reality of the power that is given to all who believe and the new life in the Spirit is evidence that we are His and He lives in us.

How people will treat other humans- even if they are related
--Man by nature is born in sin and is, as the Swiss theologian John Calvin states, “Totally Depraved”. He cannot improve his nature because

Are you ready for the Return of The KING ?

the world that we live in is caught up in life in the here and now in this life and thoughts of the future are no where in sight. Regardless where you fit in on the issue of the rapture, Christ is coming back! Believers are nevertheless unconcerned about the lost, holiness and preparation for God's kingdom. However this is vital- as Christ points out: "unless ye repent you shall likewise perish in your sins."

----Unfortunately most people including so called "church goers" are neither prepared nor do they have any intrest in the fact that Jesus Christ will return. This is because

Iran A Center of Persecution For Many

killed by a government that is oppressive and evil. We as believers have a great work to do in spending time and in prayer for our brothers and sisters that live under a regime that continues to be a thorn in the flesh of the Church of Jesus Christ. We must do what we can to get our leaders and politicians to take notice of the great human rights violations that are being imposed on the Iranian people for following The Lord Jesus.

Please pray for Iranians as many are being persecuted, tortured and

Be a Disciple and Follow Jesus ? But How?

Those are good questions because it has always been challenging in the area of making disciples in our church. This leads me to believe that in order to see the dynamics of this issue is to come to grips with the fact that we need to make extreme changes in how we see and think on what it means to follow Christ. Many people think that joining a church, going to a worship service or committing to a small group or serving in a position at some capacity means that you are a follower of Christ. However it is more than that. CLICK HERE and you will read a great article about discipleship.

What does it mean to follow Christ? What does it mean to be His disciple? How is commitment lived out?

Government Takes The Church Property- The last days.

This church took a stand and stood by biblical scripture and broke away from the liberal wing of the Episcopal Church and now must surrender it's property. The True Church of Jesus Christ, is now in a time when it will have to make a decision to stand by the word of God and suffer, or go along with a culture that is anything but Godly. Always keep in mind: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" Ephesians 6:12 CLICK HERE TO READ FULL STORY

Catering To The Consumer Rather Than God

The congregation where God is meeting with His people should bring conviction and a sense of awe -if those who are strangers to the gospel, congregate with His covenant people, who are there to feed from the word of God. Therefore the church looks different because it is different. As His people, the church, lifts up songs and praise that are pleasing to God -as His word is spoken to us through a vessel known as the Pastor. God then is pleased and worship is authentic. Therefore the service should appeal to God rather than human beings. This is what is important- as He meets with us as believers, each week in big and small places revealing the person and work of Christ that is served to us in the message of the Gospel. Those who are visitors are welcomed and loved as they too witness the message of God and experience how worship is given to Him as we welcome them in love and joy. Music can be culturally sensitive and various styles can be incorporated to reach our hearts with gladness and uplifting moods of joy. However the church worship service should never be changed to make humans who are un-saved more at ease with the God of creation who is a consuming fire. For we are apart of His story of redemption through Jesus Christ and we change for Him for He states: "Behold I am God and I change not"

The worship of God, to the natural man, should feel different to an individual as he or she enters the congregation of God's church. That is because

Welcome to the new folks!

We are definitely glad to have you as members of our fellowship and we believe that you are and will be a great asset to the Kingdom of God -as well as our local congregation. I know God has great things ahead for you as instruments for the advancement of His work and for the edification of body of Christ! I truly believe in the importance of church membership -it is what is biblical for believers that claim to be members of the body of Christ. Many in American society and western culture have an individualistic attitude, however American culture takes a back seat to biblical mandates as outlined in the word of God. Scripture not our feelings are preeminent. The Necessity of Church membership (Click Here and Read!)

I want to welcome some more new members to our church that joined this week and say blessings and whole lotta love from me and all the members of the church!

Pray for Muslims Everywhere!

Because this is the message of Jesus Christ that we must pray for our enemies and those that persecute us and say all manner of evil against us. We must show the love of Christ to a world that does not know Him. By showing how He loved even when all manner of evil was done to Him. We must also endure hardship and persecution when evil is done to us. Let us also pray for those being persecuted for the name of Christ as they suffer great loss for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

We must pray for people even when they do not like us or persecute us. WHY?

Why Islamic law like all religious laws can't save or improve mankind

Because humans are not good by nature. (Psa. 14:3-5; Rom 3:10-18) ). Men by their internal make up are at "enmity against God and are not subject to the Law of God" (Rom. 8:7) Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ works to give life to creatures that are "dead in trespasses and sin" and only the supernatural working of the Gospel through the Holy Spirit can supply the power to "obey" Him (Heb. 5:9). Therefore regardless of what "moral law" any society imposes it's futile- simply because they can not and do not want to obey the law of God, or moral laws, or civil laws, etc.. That is why Ezekiel 11:19 points out that God will one day give His people a new heart and take out the stony heart of stone and replace it with a "fleshy" heart that wants to do what God says is righteousness rather than some strange "moral" Islamic law imposed on people with fear and torture. Since the divine intervention of God is real, you don't have to threaten humans with Islamic laws or any other laws to force people to do what is good and moral because when they are "born again" it becomes part of their Christlike nature, to "do the will of Him" that made us. And this happens without the threat of jail.
This video shows a prime reason why the law can't save you and why God does not grant salvation by being good. How come?

Lutherans Doing What They Want to Do

Lutheran Church Abandons Biblical Teaching on Homosexuality
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, different from Lutheran Missouri Synod, has gone the way of the Episcopal Church and completely abandoned the Word of God in regards to behavior and mandates regarding human sexuality as you will see in the video. No surprise- this is what happens in times of church apostasy. They should remove the word "Evangelical" and replace with "Secular" because that's who they represent. What's next? The approval of adult child relationships?

A Wonderful Time for All!

What a great time we had for Friends and Family Day! Glad to see so many of our family and friends worship with us and enjoy great food for lunch on a Hot (and boy do I mean hot) Sunday afternoon! Hopefully nobody ate too much because that's one of the things they say about Baptist:
We love to eat! Also I was glad to see our new members active and doing their part to make the day as smooth as possible. Since we started right on time, I tried not to preach too long in our facility-that doesn't have air conditioning- but you know how that goes! However everyone was wide awake and the heat didn't overtake anyone -even when I talked about judgment, sin, hell and death WOW! Cool huh? Nevertheless I wanted to say thanks to all and I appreciate and love everyone!

Do You Know How To Read?

Reading of Scripture is done so poorly by many in our churches ( including me sometimes) and it is a shame- because it is the WORD OF GOD! That means great care and consideration should be given. As one reads out loud, a level of passion should be put into the pages of scripture as it is publicly read for worship. We tend to invest a lot of time and energy into music, productions, the lighting and aesthetics of the building but how much time is given to the practice and patience of reading scripture? Listen and watch the video below and enjoy the art of Reading the Word of God.

Truth with Hip Hop Flavor

American Mega Madness is becoming the norm as more and more churches are judged by numbers in the pews instead of the proclamation of the gospel and the sacraments. Unfortunately, as this video points out, prosperity and financial success are seen as indicators of a ministry's validity rather than the preaching of Christ and His office as King, Judge and Savior. Sad to say this NY Times Article points this out as well as the video below.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. (II Timothy 4:3)

Modern Day Nonsense

Why does Christianity need good sound biblical preaching? Because the church has been basically hijacked by a bombardment of false teaching, pragmatism, relativism and con artists and this video is just one example of how far the church has strayed from orthodoxy. If you notice in this clip below, this woman has no bible, uses no scripture and she parrots out biblical half-truths and unbalanced emotional dribble. All this while twisting the teachings of salvation- found only in Christianity and Jesus Christ- as she develops a doctrine to suit a false concept of redemption that is neither sound or biblical.

Preaching You Won't Hear on American Religious TV

This video has preaching you will not hear on American religious television. Preaching like this is not only foreign to most people it is unpopular, un-welcomed and too strong for the modern church goer. Cool, soft and relevant is the style of the day- for we are in the last days, if fact we are in the "Day of Noah". (Matt.24:37)

Will Independence Day Soon be Over For The Church?

Here is a video that shows what is happening in the UK- unfortunately it will soon be the norm in most of the western world including the United States. To preach the gospel of Christ and speak out against sin, will eventually mean persecution- not only by the state but also by the local congregation. For example, as more and more churches compete for membership in a secular society, congregations will continue to water down scripture to make it more palatable for lost men and women to attend their churches -resulting in a more and more impotent message of man centered pragmatism rather than Christ centered preaching.

Prayer for Ministry ( Really Worth Reading !)

Prayer is the most underestimated element in the work of ministry yet it is crucial for survival. I've posted a wonderful article on prayer that I think that some of you in ministry will find useful-and even if you are not in ministry it's useful! Anytime an individual is in ministry you need to be saturated in prayer because it is vital for your very survival.(trust me on this!) Click Here and Read

More on The Silent Sin and Shame of a Community

Here is another video describing the ugly secret in the black community that has been around for quite some time yet many people and clergy in the African American community have been silent on this evil issue. However the sin of abortion and it's horror can no longer be hidden and must be addressed and stopped- for God is watching and will judge. "Be not deceived God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" (Galatians 6:7)

The Average Church Member of Today

Surprised? Don't be. This unfortunately is what a lot of members of the modern church of today look like. Satan and sin has infiltrated the church to such an extent, that people neither know what it means to be a follower of The Savior, nor do churches teach or preach what the life requirements are to commit oneself as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Because the church is so interested in putting people in the pews, they forget about putting the word of God in their minds, the person of Christ in their hearts, and the Holy Spirit in their souls- where they can be rescued from the depravity of their lives.

A Great Men's Day!

Glory to God! The men's day was a great success. What a beautiful Sunday afternoon to have an uplifting and joyful time for our men's day. I must admit it went so well! Thanks to all who participated -as we showed what God was able to do with just a small group of men who are dedicated to lifting up the name of Jesus Christ! If God is for you who can be against you...right? Thanks again to Pastor Goree and his church and Rev. Jackson- as the Holy Spirit used him to deliver a great sermon, it was edifying to the body of Christ. Okay men we are looking forward to bigger and better things in the future so keep on keeping on! Oh yeah I almost forgot! New pictures will be up soon everybody, so check out the photo section- possibly sometime this week and if not this week definitely next week.
Blessings!

Why Most Preaching Sucks!

Why The Pastor Can't Preach

"Preaching is theology coming through a man who is on fire.." This is the quote from the famous preacher: D. Martin Lloyd Jones. Unfortunately many of the things called sermons not only should they not be preached but should be strangled, killed and buried (sometimes including my own- I must admit unfortunately). There is a sad state of preaching in the modern church- and most of the parishioners know it. It's a shame that most church goers have to sit week after week, listening to horrible sermons as they suffer needlessly to the ranting of pastors throughout the years, delivering so called "messages" that are neither interesting, glorifying to Christ, nor are they edifying or uplifting to the average Christian. T David Gordon writes about this in a book entitled: Why Johnny Can't Preach. Here, I believe, are the reasons that most preachers cannot preach their way out of a wet paper napkin:

1) Many don't know how to read the Bible for preaching and delivering a message to a congregation. [T. David Gordon thesis]

2) They don't see Christ in the text and are unable to exegete scripture well enough to locate Christ in His: offices, humiliation/ exaltation, benefits, and person.

3) Most don’t understand gospel motives and sanctification indicatives and imperatives.

4) They don't read scripture or meditate in it enough so that his heart is filled with the Word of God so that the Word of Christ dwells richly where he:
a. Is filled with Spirit
b. Speaks the Word with confidence

5) Hasn’t studied how other preachers compel attention: dialogue, develop plot, significance/ importance, implement surprise, etc.

6 Doesn’t have the love for men and compassion for lost souls in his gospel proclamation.

7) Cherishes hidden sin and has not dealt with it.

8) Refuses to speak of wrath, fear, sin, judgment, etc. Doesn’t know how to deal with teaching that may be difficult for hearers to receive (truth or response) without unnecessary offense.

9) Doesn’t regularly deal with souls by integrating himself in the lives others instead he is absorbed with himself and the so called "business of ministry" (during the week)

10) Doesn’t pray for, and beg others to pray for, unction in preaching, the power and filling of the Holy Spirit or fervency in delivery.

11) Doesn’t show how the text moves hearers to application / implication / worship. He isn't clear and pointed in addressing hearers and what God's word is saying to them.

12) Doesn’t know where (each part of) the sermon is going and where it will end up, showing he doesn’t know why he’s saying what he is saying during a sermon.

13) Preaches for the approval of men, not for Gods glory and kingdom.

14) Forgets that the gospel is the power of God for salvation

15) Is afraid of reproach or tribulation or retribution from humans rather than the fear of God.

16) Doesn’t make sermon preparation a priority each day during the week and waits until last days of the week to put together weak and impotent outlines.

17) Has a low view of the power of prayer; so much so that he doesn’t ask or have anyone praying for him in the work of the pulpit

The Compromise Driven Pastor

What happens to a man when he refuses to preach the gospel and speak out against sin?
He will compromise.
Listen to Rick Warren speak- as he hems and haws, backtracks, and rambles doubletalk as he attempts to have Larry King and America approve of him by distancing himself from activist and people who spoke out against homosexuals marrying each other in California. Rick wants to be liked and approved of by the culture and not hated- however that's not always possible according to our Leader.
If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.-Jesus Christ

Word to Rick Warren: Let the world hate you... it's normal.

Christless Preaching -How did we end up here?

How sad that most modern preaching is practically devoid of any mention of the atoning work of Christ. Many of these sermons do have snippets from the bible but they're usually centered about people. This example is one of many that sadly reflect the absence of Jesus Christ in preaching. Most of what one hears in church has nothing to do with The Savior and His sacrificial work on the cross. The regeneration of the Holy Spirit is never talked about, not to mention any aspect of the resurrection of Christ and what that means to believers -all this is completely absent. In fact most sermons are human centered (stuff about your life, how it works, and how it can be improved- using random biblical text) and not CHRIST CENTERED (things of His life,His power and what He has done already). By nature, people love hearing things about themselves and less about Christ therefore their growth is external (human-like) and not internal (Christ-like). Preachers in return continue to preach to the desires and excitement of the crowd rather than to the Glory and honor of God.

More Monkey See Monkey Do Evangelism

If you click on the title above you will see another sad example of a church attempting another wacky method to attract seekers using pragmatism (do anything as long as it works) to get people to come to church. When will churches stop looking for some kind of gimmick to grow memberships. What's next- communion with Jack Daniels instead of grape juice? Hey Pastor I have a novel idea: instead of giving them shot glasses that they drink whiskey out of, how about witnessing and giving out the GOSPEL! Oh I forgot that might offend them.

The Coming Fall of American Evangelical Christianity

The movement of Evangelical Christianity in America is unfortunately a declining movement. The power and influence of Christ and His church is as strong as ever throughout the world but in our postmodern western churches in North America and Europe it is waning. Like the economic collapse that is now present, sad to say, the American Protestant church is next. Most believers are so inept at giving their testimony or articulating what being a follower of Jesus Christ means that the growing and incoming secular society will demolish them and shake their foundation to such an extent, that they too like our banking system, will fall. Church attendance and the taking of sacraments is inconsistent as well as accountability in their personal lives for sanctification therefore customer driven mega churches will soon be the norm. If you take notice of the church today you will find that the average churchgoer would fail miserably at explaining basic 8th grade tenants of the faith if randomly quizzed about why and what they believe. And most are neither worried nor concerned about their relationship with Christ and their salvation. Don't believe me about the fall? Click on this and read why THE COMING COLLAPSE and hopefully we can do something to change direction.

Prayer Breakfast

Thanks to all it was a great success

. Hello everyone- the prayer breakfast was fantastic! Hopefully everyone had a good time and plenty to eat I sure did (which is not good for my waist). Everybody participated and came through for a magnificent event. The program was very nice and glorifying to God -which is the most important thing- and I am looking forward to bigger and even better things for next year; and if this is any indication of what we can look forward to, we will be so blessed! Hopefully we will have some photos up soon. Also lets continue to pray for all of our members and also for our new member Teresa. She was recently hospitalized so keep bringing her to the throne before God.
Anyway Blessings to all

A Ball of Christian Confusion

There is no substitute for knowing the Bible for yourself

Because many believers are so severely ignorant of the word of God, nonsense like this flourishes on religious television. Since the average Christian never attends a bible study or has no organized study of anything biblical- they unfortunately will believe anything and anyone if it sounds good.

Why the church is like the world

Here we see a "Christian" young man that has compromised for the world and justifies himself as he practices the art of being double minded. Watch as this young lady who is a believer, does what is biblical and corrects him and rebukes him for his errors. She doesn't judge him she just points out where he is wrong, questions him, and states what a believer should and should not be.... Great Job Blair!
